Day 1Meeting in St.-Petersburg. Transfer to Karelia by minibus. Option on the way: visiting the Korela museum-fortress and historical complex in Berezovo. Arrival at Sortavala.
Day 2Walking around Sortavala. Visiting one of the museums. Walk to Vakkosalmi park and Kukhavuori Hill. A wonderful panorama of Ladoga Bay, the historic part of the city and new buildings opens from this place. Trip to Ruskeala Mining Park – one of the brightest and most amazing place of the North Ladoga region. Hiking in the forest around Marble Canyon.
Day 3Hiking to Riekkalansaari Island - one of the largest in Ladoga. The nature of the island is unique: here one can find high rocks with canyons, plains with wild fields and meadows, a small lake.
Day 4Transfer to Kharlu Settlement. Hiking route: Kharlu - Lake Pitkyayarvi - Lake Ristiyarvi - Petsevaara Uplands - Lake Khaukkayarvi. You will meet picturesque lakes with high stone shores.
Day 5Travel by ship to Valaam Island. You will discover a wonderful world during this voyage: waves of the lake, small islands, seagulls, granite coast with notched rocks and pine groves. Hiking and visiting the Valaam Monastery. Overnight staying in a tent on the Valaam Island. Dinner around bonfire.
Day 6Hiking in the western part of the Valaam Island, visit to: the Monastery of All Sacred, the Konevsky Monastery, a monastic farm, Igumensky Lakes, the Gefsimansky Monastery and Garden, the Voskresensky Monastery, Lake Leshchevoye, the Igumenskoye Cemetery. Return to Sortavala.
Day 7Transfer to Impilakhti Settlement. Hiking route to the Khanukka Peninsula. The shore of the gulf opens into the breathtaking views to the Ladoga. Transfer to the guest house by minibus.
Day 8After short transfer hiking to the Belye Mosty Falls - the highest falls in the southern Karelia (35 m high). Come back, farewell dinner. Night at the guest house.
Day 9 (basic program)Transfer to St.-Petersburg by minibus (to the airport or the hotel if you trip is continued in St.-Petersburg). Optionally: After 8-days program you can add 3 extra days with visiting the ancient Karelian village Kinerma and trip to Kizhi Island Museum by boat. Accommodation in Petrozavodsk (2 nights). Train to St.-Petersburg or flight to Moscow.
